Asi@Connect Project
- The Asi@Connect Project is a follow-up project of TEIN4 to advance the network between countries and focus on developing and activating applications using the network. It creates an international joint research environment and provides benefits across society by acting as a bridge between 24 Asian countries and continents through a high-speed network.
- It is operated by the TEIN Cooperation Center with the support of the Ministry of Science and ICT with 20 million euros in the EU and 16 million euros in contributions from participating countries.
- It aims to manage/support network infrastructure that quickly transmits large amounts of scientific and technological data such as telemedicine, remote education, and eduroam, climate/disaster management research over the next five years, and to revitalize international joint research and bridging the digital divide by connecting Asian research networks.
ASEM-related conferences
- At the 3rd ASEM Summit (October 2000, Seoul), Korea proposed the TEIN project and it was approved as an official ASEM project. TEIN is a project to build a research network between Asia and Europe with the purpose of providing a high-speed information and communication infrastructure R&D of next-generation Internet and medical/meteorological application technologies and bridging the information gap between regions.
- The result of TEIN2 at the ASEM ICT SOM (June 2006, Vietnam) and the 1st ASEM ICT Ministerial Meeting (November 2006, Vietnam) played a significant role in promoting international joint research between the Asian and European continents and bridging the information gap in Southeast Asia. It was recognized that the operation of TEIN2 would continue in the mid- to long-term until after 2007.
- The opening ceremony of TEIN2 was held during the ASEM6 Summit (September 2006, Finland) to convey the importance of TEIN2 to the heads of each country. As a result, the need for TEIN2 achievements and continuous operation was mentioned in the ASEM6 Chairman's Statement.
